Gyotaku (Fish Print Making) Workshop

Learn to make prints from fish!

  • 45 US dollars
  • East Mahoney Street

Service Description

Step into our Gyotaku printmaking workshop where creativity meets tradition in a whirlwind of ink and creativity. Gyotaku is the art of print making from fish. Fish printing originated before the invention of cameras when Japanese fisherman would record large or unusual specimens by making inked reproductions of their catch. There are now examples of this work in museums around the world. And after this workshop you will have your own. Best for ages 10 and up. This class is set up as a family style workshop. Meaning it is set up that a parent can accompany their child to the workshop. You would be working on the same print in that case. You do have the option to book independently if you would like to both make a print. We are using paints and inks, so plan you clothing accordingly. We do have aprons and latex gloves, but it is still best to wear things that you don’t mind getting paint on.
